Courses
Course 1: MUNA Euro-Med Summer School for Environmental Integration (Onsite & Online)
MUNA Euro-Med Summer School for Environmental Integration includes transversal research topics underway within the MUNA – Mediterranean and Middle East University Network Agreement consortium and is proposed at EMCEI-2024 by the Interdepartmental Research Center for the Environment, IRCEnv (CIRAm), of Federico II University (Italy). The objective is to provide graduate students and young scientists with useful information toward understanding how the synergy between different disciplines and the interdisciplinary approach are fundamental elements for achieving the SDGs and, above all, to propose an emphasis on new research approaches to be applied to handle the challenging environmental issues that our society will be called upon to face in the coming decades.
The Summer School is chaired by Giulia Guerriero (MUNA, Italy) and Azzouz Kchikach (MUNA, Morocco) and scheduled on May 17, 2024 at 10:30–12:30 (see Scientific Program).
Invited Speakers
Lecture 1: Roles of Vegetation for Environmental Restoration
Lecture 2: Bioprospecting and Exploitation of Mediterranean Vegetation for the Production of Biofuel
Lecture 3: Use of Environmental-Omics and Metagenomic Applications for Hygiene Monitoring in a One-Health Approach

Course 2: Euro-Med Summer School: Environmental Evolution (Statistical Modeling and Deep Learning) (Online)
With the gradual establishment of the air-space-ground-sea integrated observation system and the rapid development of the next generation of Earth simulators, environmental science increasingly depends on various datasets from diverse observation sources. Our summer school is an inter-disciplinary platform dedicated to teaching graduate students and junior scientists how to use traditional diagnosis techniques (statistical, spectral, numerical, simulating, etc.) and emerging data mining methods (neural networks, deep learning, cloud computing, etc.) to reveal monitoring, diagnosis, and predictions of environmental evolutions and their impacts.
This summer school is chaired by Zhihua Zhang (China) and Nabil Khelifi (Germany) and scheduled on May 15, 2024 at 14:00–16:30 (see Scientific Program).
Invited Speakers
Lecture 1: Generating Environmental Evolution Maps from Sparse and Irregular Observations
Lecture 2: Linking Disciplines, Omics and AI to Improve Climate Change and Human Health
Lecture 3: Statistical and Multivariate Approaches for Source Apportionment of Atmospheric Particulate Matter
Lecture 4: Pyroclastic Currents and Deposits: Observation and Impacts
